Separate the name from the contents

A menu name can suggest a style or mood without listing the ingredients. Look for the item description: the type of patty, number of patties, toppings, bun, and included accompaniments. If there is a size choice, confirm which one is selected.

A photograph may include a drink, garnish, or side that is not part of the listed item. Treat the written inclusion details as the starting point and ask the restaurant when they are unclear. Do not assume a pictured meal and an individually priced burger are the same purchase.

Read options as changes to the order

An extra topping, a different side, or a larger size may change the price. Some choices replace an included item; others add another item. Check how the ordering screen describes each selection before adding it.

When you return to the basket, read the item summary again. Make sure quantities, add-ons, and removals match your intentions. For a shared meal, check which items belong to each person and whether common sides have been duplicated.

Know which questions need a person

Menu labels cannot answer every preparation question. If an ingredient, shared cooking surface, or substitution matters to your order, contact the restaurant directly before confirming. Some restaurants cannot accommodate particular requests.

A delivery platform may offer a note field or an allergy-request feature, but entering a request is not the same as receiving confirmation from the kitchen. Use the merchant’s response and the platform’s stated process to decide how to proceed.

Compare equivalent baskets

Prices and offers can differ between a restaurant’s own ordering channel and a delivery platform. A meaningful comparison uses the same location, item sizes, quantities, and options. Then it adds the charges shown at checkout.

Check delivery or service charges, taxes, any other applicable fees, and the tip you choose. If a promotion applies, read its conditions and enter the resulting amounts carefully in any comparison. Do not subtract the same discount twice.

A clear comparison starts with the same meal, not just the same restaurant name.

Keep the final version

After ordering, save the confirmation that shows the final items and total. It is a better reference for a question or complaint than a screenshot of the menu you first browsed.

Use the original ordering channel for support. This journal does not sell the items it discusses and cannot view transaction records. Our references explain the general consumer and platform guidance behind these notes.
